Prison Bars employees are proving that there are ways to find redemption and have fulfilling lives after incarceration - and that it can be smart business to provide opportunities for second chances.

We are helping worthy Americans regain their sense of self-worth by becoming engaged citizens and employees.

Packed with organic ingredients, our non-GMO and gluten-free products are made in America with pride, hope, and determination to make good on our commitment while providing members of this underutilized talent pool second chances. Because then, they can pay it forward too.

We believe those who are willing to work and embrace their responsibilities deserve a chance for redemption.

Here's why:

  • The U.S. recidivism rate is 76% in the first 5 years of release.
  • There are currently 2.2 million incarcerated individuals in the U.S.

  • There are about 4.75 million individuals on probation or parole.

  • 89% of those re-arrested don’t have jobs at the time they commit their new crime.

  • Estimates put the cost of employment losses among people with criminal records at as much as $65 billion per year in terms of GDP.

  • Employment is the most common reentry concern. A Vera Institute of Justice study noted that 73% of self-reporting respondents noted it as a top priority – and it is linked directly with housing, relationships, substance abuse, and "staying out of trouble".

The barriers to self-sufficiency and employment are well-documented for formerly incarcerated populations - ranging from college applications to job searches, interview processes, and professional certifications. We are proving that there are ways to find redemption and give back after incarceration - and that it can be smart for business to provide pathways to second chances. We are helping worthy Americans regain their sense of self-worth by becoming engaged citizens and employees. To emphasize our commitment, we have a vision to employ 90 formerly incarcerated individuals across the country, hiring the best and brightest regardless of their criminal record.
